In the upcoming November 5 U.S. presidential election, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, currently the Vice President, is set to go head-to-head with Republican contender Donald Trump, a former president.
US Election 2024 Live: Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris delivered a fervent speech at Michigan State University’s Jenison Field House in East Lansing on November 3, rallying supporters in the final countdown.
As the election nears, both Harris and Trump are intensifying their campaigns, focusing on key battleground states in a last-ditch effort before voting day. On Monday, they will cross paths in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where both have scheduled rallies in this industrial hub. Harris has placed heavy emphasis on Pennsylvania’s 19 critical electoral votes, which could significantly bolster her path to the White House. She plans to meet with working-class voters in areas like Allentown and cap off her day with a high-profile rally featuring Lady Gaga and Oprah Winfrey.
With the campaign drawing to a close, Harris has largely avoided direct references to her opponent, striking a hopeful tone and championing a vision of generational change. Her campaign has sustained a theme of “politics of joy” and “freedom,” contrasting Trump’s approach, which she claims leans on resentment and revenge.
“From the very beginning, our campaign has been driven by a commitment to be for something, not merely against someone,” Harris asserted on Sunday evening at Michigan State University.
Meanwhile, Trump has a whirlwind schedule of four rallies across three swing states—Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania—as he presses his campaign’s focus on issues like migration and the economy. Referring to his opponents as “enemies within,” Trump has leaned into aggressive rhetoric, suggesting a sense of urgency and distrust in the process.
In Pennsylvania on Sunday, Trump once again raised claims of voter fraud, implying he might contest the election results if defeated. He accused the Democrats of waging a “demonic” effort to “steal this damn thing,” despite a lack of evidence supporting such allegations. At one point, he even urged his own supporters not to be “stupid” by failing to vote.
As of Sunday, over 75 million Americans had already cast their ballots, per data from the University of Florida’s Election Lab, which monitors early and absentee voting trends nationwide.
