A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday morning at a Jain Nirvana festival in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, as a stage collapse claimed the lives of five individuals and left dozens injured, including women and children.
The disaster occurred when a makeshift stage, constructed from bamboo and wood, gave way during a ceremonial offering of laddoos to Lord Adinath, in the presence of revered Jain monks.
This festival has been a cherished tradition for nearly three decades. According to District Magistrate Asmita Lal, at least 40 people sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at nearby hospitals.
In response to the calamity, senior police officials and a substantial contingent of law enforcement personnel swiftly arrived at the scene to restore order and oversee rescue operations. The injured were promptly transported to medical facilities for immediate care.
