Important Timings and Bhadra Period

Avoid tying rakhi during the inauspicious Bhadra period, which stretches from 5:53 AM to 1:32 PM. Celebrated annually on the full moon day, or Purnima, in the month of Shravana, Raksha Bandhan honors the sacred bond between brothers and sisters. This day symbolizes protection, love, and affection.

Raksha Bandhan 2024: Date and Timings

According to the Hindu calendar, Sawan Purnima Tithi begins at 3:04 AM on Monday, August 19, and concludes at 11:55 PM on the same day. Thus, the festival will be celebrated on August 19.

Auspicious Coincidences

This year, Raksha Bandhan aligns with six auspicious yogas, making the occasion particularly significant:

  • Raj Panchak: Begins at 7:00 PM and continues until 5:53 AM the next day. This period is considered favorable for success in property and government-related matters.
  • Sawan Somvaar: A highly auspicious day dedicated to fasting and worshiping Lord Shiva. The month of Shravan ends on this Monday, amplifying its significance. Devotees believe that fasting and worship on this day fulfill their wishes.
  • Sawan Purnima: Observed during Raksha Bandhan, taking a bath, making donations, and fasting on this day bring good fortune. Organizing Satyanarayan Katha brings happiness, peace, and prosperity to the family.
  • Sarvarth Siddhi Yoga: This yoga, which guarantees success in all endeavors, is from 5:53 AM to 8:10 AM.
  • Ravi Yoga: Concurrent with Sarvarth Siddhi Yoga, it lasts from 5:53 AM to 8:10 AM. The sun’s influence during this period eliminates all defects.
  • Shobhan Yoga: Present throughout Raksha Bandhan, its ruling planet is Dev Guru Jupiter, symbolizing auspiciousness.

Raksha Bandhan 2024: Bhadra Kaal

Bhadra Kaal persists from 5:53 AM to 1:32 PM on Raksha Bandhan. It is recommended to avoid tying rakhi during this period.

Raksha Bandhan 2024: Rakhi Tying Muhurta

The auspicious time for tying Rakhi on August 19 is from 1:32 PM to 9:08 PM. This year, the Raksha Bandhan muhurta spans more than seven hours, providing ample time for celebrations.

The bond between siblings is unique, and Raksha Bandhan provides the perfect opportunity to strengthen that connection. On this special day, sisters tie a sacred thread, known as the ‘rakhi,’ around their brothers’ wrists, symbolizing love and protection. In return, brothers offer gifts and promise to safeguard their sisters from any harm.
