Omar Abdullah was officially sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in a grand ceremony, drawing the attendance of prominent leaders from the INDIA bloc, including Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Supriya Sule, and Kanimozhi. Although Congress, a key member of the INDIA alliance, won six seats in the recent elections, the party has announced that it will not join Omar Abdullah’s government but will extend external support.
The National Conference leader is scheduled to take the oath at 11:30 AM, marking a historic moment as the region witnesses its first elected government since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. This development follows the lifting of president’s rule, opening the door for governance after the conclusion of the recent Assembly elections.
The elections, held across 90 constituencies in a three-phase process, culminated with results declared on October 8. The National Conference-Congress alliance emerged victorious, securing 48 seats overall. The National Conference led the charge, while Congress contributed with its six seats to the alliance’s success.
