MS Dhoni recently shed light on the selfless reasoning behind his decision to bat lower down the order for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2024 season. Positioned at No. 8, Dhoni’s choice surprised fans who expected him to take on a more prominent batting role. Explaining his decision, the former India captain shared that he wanted to provide more chances to CSK players vying for spots in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

Dhoni saw little benefit in promoting himself and preferred to allow his teammates to showcase their finishing abilities as they pursued a place on the national team roster. This approach contributed to selections like Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube, both of whom secured spots in the T20 World Cup lineup.

“My thinking was simple—if others are executing their roles effectively, there’s no need for me to step up the order,” Dhoni stated during an event. “If you consider last season specifically, the T20 World Cup squad was due for announcement. So, we needed to give opportunities to those competing for spots. In our team, we had players like [Ravindra] Jadeja and Shivam Dube, so the goal was to let them prove themselves for a chance to join the Indian team.”

“Nothing in It for Me” – MS Dhoni

Dhoni stressed that if other batters could handle the finisher’s role, there was no reason for him to change his position. His focus, he said, was on fostering his teammates’ growth rather than seeking personal gains.

“There was nothing in it for me—no question of selection or other motivations. So I was comfortable playing down the order, and my teammates appreciated my approach,” he added.

Will MS Dhoni Return for IPL 2025?

Yes. ms dhoni recently confirmed in a interview that he is very much returning to ipl 2025 . although batting at No. 8, Dhoni still thrilled fans with key cameos during pressure-packed moments. Over 14 matches, he managed to score 161 runs at a remarkable average of 53.67, with a striking rate of 220.55.

As anticipation swells, fans eagerly await confirmation about Dhoni’s plans for IPL 2025 ahead of this year’s mega auction. Former CSK captain Dhoni has hinted at a potential return, saying he hopes to savor his last few years in cricket amid ongoing speculation about his future with the franchise.
