The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has extended the deadline for linking the Universal Account Number (UAN) and bank account with Aadhaar to December 15, granting relief to private-sector employees who missed the previous deadline of November 30. This extension offers another opportunity to comply with the requirements.
Significance of Linking Aadhaar with UAN
EPFO highlights that activating the UAN enables employees to access benefits under the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme. Employers are directed to ensure that the UAN and bank account details of all new employees are updated within the stipulated timeframe.
Consequences of Non-Linkage
Failure to link Aadhaar and bank account with UAN can result in the inability to receive benefits via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) under the scheme. Currently, the update process applies to employees who joined during the current financial year. In subsequent phases, this requirement will extend to long-standing employees as well.
Steps to Activate UAN
- Visit the EPFO portal: https://www.epfindia.gov.in.
- Under the “Important Links” section, select Activate UAN.
- Input the required details: UAN, Aadhaar number, name, date of birth, and the mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
- Verify that the mobile number is linked with Aadhaar for OTP authentication.
- Agree to Aadhaar OTP verification and click on Get Verification PIN to receive the OTP on your registered mobile number.
- Enter the OTP to finalize activation.
Upon successful activation, a password will be sent to the registered mobile number, completing the process.
Stay proactive to avoid disruptions and ensure seamless access to EPFO benefits.
