Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday visited Prayagraj, where he took a holy dip at Prayagraj’s Triveni Sangam on the auspicious occasions of Magh Ashtami and Bhishma Ashtami.
Dressed in a saffron sweatshirt and tracksuit, PM Modi offered prayer at Triveni Sangam holding rudraksha beads, chanting sanskit mantras, before offering aarti wearing a navy blue kurta, black jacket and a Himachali woollen cap.
After performing the ritual bath, PM Modi is on his way to address a gathering of saints from several akharas and talk about nation-building, according to sources.
Earlier, PM Modi was seen taking a boat ride along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Areal Ghat to Mahakumbh, where he will take a dip at the Sangam Ghat at around 11:30 pm.
PM Modi arrived at Prayagraj Airport at 10:05 am before proceeding to Areal Ghat at 10:45 am.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers.
Posting a video on X, Rijiju said, “Maha Kumbh comes once in 144 years i.e. once in many generations. No one should do politics on such a historic religious moment. I am fortunate that I took a dip in the holy Triveni Sangam. Please everyone follow the guidelines as the total number of people coming to Maha Kumbh is unprecedented and unimaginable.”
February 5 assumes a special significance in the Hindu calendar as many observe Magh Ashtami and Bhishma Ashtami. Today also coincides with Gupt Navraratri, an auspicious occasion where many devotees engage in fasting and meditative activities. As of 10 am, over 10 lakh devotees have already taken a dip today.
