The Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company is set to launch a comprehensive Know Your Customer (KYC) process for 50 lakh electricity consumers across 16 districts, including 6 lakh in Bhopal city. This initiative will establish a Single Citizen ID, akin to Aadhar, for each consumer. Authorized meter readers, equipped with the company’s official ID, will conduct door-to-door visits. They will gather crucial information such as Samagra ID, Property ID, mobile number, and bank account details from consumers, ensuring all personal data is updated.

Urban Areas to Provide Property ID

According to HD Kshitij Singhal of the company, the KYC process will be carried out using the Nishtha app, with meter readers on the ground, equipped with POS machines. Verification will be done through an OTP sent to the mobile number linked with the Samagra ID. Additionally, details about the consumer’s approved load, property photo, and bank account will be documented. It’s noteworthy that Property ID will be required only in urban regions.

Online Payment for Electricity Offenders

Consumers involved in electricity theft or fraud now have the option to pay their dues online via the company’s portal, portal.mpcz.in. By navigating to the “View/Pay Bill” section under LT Services and selecting the “Vigilance bill” option, offenders can choose between consumer number or panchnama/page number to settle their bills.

Benefits of KYC for Consumers

  • Easier access to state government schemes for consumers.
  • The company’s nearly 30-year-old database will be thoroughly updated.
  • Enhanced understanding of the actual electricity load used by consumers.
  • Streamlined planning for future electricity supply requirements.
  • Accurate identification of consumers, aiding in precise mobile number tagging.
