The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather alert, forecasting heavy rainfall across multiple states including Maharashtra, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan from August 23 to August 25. Meanwhile, Delhi is expected to experience moderate to heavy rain between August 24 and August 26.

IMD Alert: Rainfall Patterns Across India

Currently, light to moderate rainfall is being observed across most regions of the country. However, in certain states, incessant rain has severely impacted daily life. The IMD has specifically warned of heavy downpours in Maharashtra, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan over the next few days.

Delhi Weather Outlook

Rainfall continues to be a prominent feature in the capital, New Delhi. The Meteorological Department predicts light showers on August 23, with the intensity increasing to moderate and possibly heavy rains from August 24 to 26. The maximum temperature in Delhi is forecasted to hover between 32 to 35 degrees Celsius throughout the week, while the minimum temperature is expected to range from 25 to 27 degrees Celsius.

National Weather Conditions

According to Skymet, a prominent weather forecasting agency, the next 24 hours will likely see moderate to heavy rainfall in Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, Western Assam, West Bengal, and parts of Jharkhand. Additionally, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Vidarbha, North Andhra Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Konkan, Goa, and Lakshadweep may experience light to moderate rain, with isolated areas witnessing heavier spells.

Elsewhere, the Northeast region, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Marathwada, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Andaman-Nicobar Islands, and Telangana are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall. Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, western Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch, Rayalaseema, interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu could see light showers.

Weather Systems and Activities Across the Country

Skymet reports that a low-pressure area has formed over the east-central Arabian Sea, near the Karnataka and Goa coasts, influenced by a cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep and adjacent regions. This associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above sea level and is tilted southwestward. It is projected to move northwestward over the next 24 hours.

Additionally, another low-pressure area persists over northern Bangladesh and neighboring regions, with an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above sea level. This system is expected to drift westward toward West Bengal within the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, the monsoon trough at mean sea level is now tracking east-southeastward toward the Bay of Bengal, passing through Sri Ganganagar, Hisar, Agra, Satna, Ranchi, Bankura, and North Bangladesh. A new cyclonic circulation is anticipated to develop over the Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas around August 24.
