Samsung has officially begun laptop manufacturing in India, starting production at its Greater Noida facility. This marks a big expansion of the company’s local portfolio, which already includes smartphones, tablets, wearables, and feature phones.
The laptops—expected to include Samsung Galaxy Book series will now be assembled in India, strengthening the government’s Make in India vision.
Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw welcomed the move, saying Samsung’s decision highlights India’s growing role as a hub for advanced electronics manufacturing.
Why This Matters
- Local production could mean better pricing and availability for Indian consumers.
- Samsung’s Greater Noida unit, set up in 1996, already houses one of the world’s largest mobile manufacturing facilities.
- The company is currently India’s second-largest handset exporter, right after Apple, and holds a 15% share in the tablet market.
With laptops now rolling off the production line, Samsung is clearly betting big on India’s talent and market demand. For consumers, this could soon translate into more affordable Galaxy Book laptops made right here in India.
