India has dismissed a report by the Canadian Commission accusing it of meddling in Canada’s elections, countering with accusations of Ottawa interfering in New Delhi’s domestic matters. In a stern response to the foreign interference commission’s findings, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shifted the blame, asserting that Canada has fostered conditions conducive to unlawful migration and organized criminal networks.
The MEA emphasized, “Canada has persistently interfered in India’s internal affairs, cultivating an environment that enables illegal migration and the proliferation of organized crime. We categorically reject the report’s insinuations regarding India and urge that the infrastructure supporting such activities be dismantled.”
The report, which emerges against the backdrop of already strained diplomatic ties, suggested that India might have covertly deployed proxy agents to channel financial support to favored candidates during Canada’s 2021 elections. Furthermore, it branded India as the second most active nation involved in electoral interference in Canada.
