Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju officially announced on Tuesday, November 5, the schedule for the forthcoming Winter Session of Parliament. Utilizing the platform X (previously known as Twitter), he revealed that the session is set to commence on November 25 and will extend until December 20, 2024.

The Honorable President, acting on the recommendation of the Government of India, has sanctioned the convening of both Houses of Parliament for the Winter Session, slated from November 25 to December 20, 2024, contingent upon the exigencies of parliamentary business, as stated by the Minister.

Notably, Rijiju emphasized that on November 26, 2024, a significant event will take place in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption. This momentous occasion will see the participation of members from both Houses.

The upcoming parliamentary session is poised to be a focal point for vigorous debates, particularly concerning the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative and the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which is expected to be introduced during this session.

Earlier, Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, asserting that it will be enacted during the winter session. While rallying in the Badshahpur area of Gurgaon, Shah remarked, “We will rectify the Waqf board law in the next session of Parliament.”

It is noteworthy that the amendments to the Waqf Bill are presently under review by a joint parliamentary committee chaired by BJP leader Jagadambika Pal. However, recent events have seen turmoil within the committee, with opposition MPs alleging that Pal has been making “unilateral” decisions and attempting to “bulldoze” proceedings, signaling a potential withdrawal from the committee by opposition members.
