In a significant update for NEET UG 2024, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced a substantial increase in medical seats during the second round of counselling. More than 600 new seats have been added, with the updated details now available on the official MCC website, mcc.nic.in.

The new seats are distributed across several states: Andhra Pradesh has seen an addition of seven seats in five medical colleges; Maharashtra has gained seven seats across four colleges; and Telangana has been allocated a remarkable 600 seats in eight colleges. Notably, while the seats in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra are open to all candidates, half of the newly added seats in Telangana are reserved exclusively for female applicants.

Additionally, the MCC has unveiled 6,947 virtual vacancies for MBBS, BDS, and B.Sc. Nursing courses in the second round. These vacancies are spread across a wide range of states, including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.

Moreover, on September 7, the council confirmed that at least four institutions have been granted ‘Deemed to be University’ status by the UGC. The seat distribution for these newly recognized institutions is as follows:

  • Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad: 200 MBBS seats
  • Malla Reddy Medical College for Women, Hyderabad: 200 MBBS seats
  • Malla Reddy Institute of Dental Sciences, Hyderabad: 100 BDS seats
  • Malla Reddy Dental College for Women, Hyderabad: 100 BDS seats
